How the Kundali is calculated
Your Janma Kundali is built from three inputs: date of birth, exact time of birth, and the latitude/longitude/timezone of your birth place. From these we compute:
- Julian Day from your local birth time converted to Universal Time.
- Geocentric ecliptic longitude of the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn using simplified Meeus / VSOP-style formulas.
- Rahu & Ketu positions from the Mean Lunar Node formula (Ketu is always 180° opposite Rahu).
- Lagna (Ascendant) from the Local Sidereal Time, latitude and obliquity of the ecliptic.
- Lahiri Ayanamsa is subtracted from each tropical longitude to give the Vedic sidereal position.
- The sidereal longitude maps to a Rashi (1 of 12 zodiac signs, each 30°) and a Nakshatra (1 of 27 lunar mansions, each 13°20′).
- Houses (Bhavas) use the whole-sign system: Lagna's sign is House 1, the next sign is House 2, and so on counter-clockwise.
Vimshottari Mahadasha
The Vimshottari Dasha is a 120-year planetary timeline that begins at birth from a starting Mahadasha determined by the Moon's Nakshatra. Each of the 9 grahas rules a fixed period: Ketu 7, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19, Mercury 17. The page computes the full timeline plus the Mahadasha currently active.
Mangal Dosha (Manglik check)
Traditional rule: Mars placed in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house from the Lagna or from the Moon is considered a Manglik placement. The page checks both reference points and reports the result. Many regional traditions list cancellations — consult a Vedic astrologer for marriage decisions.
FAQ
Why does the time of birth matter so much?
The Lagna (Ascendant) advances about one degree every four minutes, so even a 10-minute error can shift your Lagna into the next sign and change every house in the chart. Use the most accurate birth time you can find — hospital records or a parent's memory.
What if my city is not in the list?
Enter the latitude, longitude and UTC offset manually. You can look these up on any maps website. Latitude north of the equator is positive, longitude east of Greenwich is positive, IST is +5.5.
Is this a substitute for a professional Kundali?
For learning, comparison and quick reference — yes. For ceremonial, marriage or remedial decisions — please consult a qualified Vedic astrologer using ephemeris-grade software (Swiss Ephemeris). The simplified algorithms here can drift by a few arc-minutes on planetary positions.
Are my details saved?
Yes — locally in your own browser only, so the form auto-fills next time on the same device. Nothing is sent to any server. Click "Clear & reset" to wipe.
How is the suggested birth name chosen?
The traditional namakaran uses a starting syllable derived from the Moon's nakshatra and pada at birth. The page shows that syllable plus example boy and girl names from our curated list. Some traditions accept any syllable from the same nakshatra — all four padas' syllables are listed too.
What predictions does this generator provide?
Rule-based interpretations of classical Vedic principles applied to your chart: marriage (7th house), career (10th), wealth (2nd & 11th), education (5th), health (Lagna lord), travel (9th & 12th), and your most fortunate Mahadasha (Yoga Karaka). These are educational interpretations, not deterministic forecasts. We do not predict longevity or death timing.
