How to read percentiles

  • 50th percentile means your baby’s weight is exactly average for their age and sex.
  • 3rd to 97th percentile is the typical healthy range. Outside this band warrants a pediatric review.
  • Trend matters more than a single point — a baby tracking consistently along the 15th percentile is healthier than one that suddenly drops from 50th to 15th.
  • For preemies, use adjusted age until 24 months.
