How to read the numbers

  • FX markup: (provider rate − mid-market rate) ÷ mid-market rate. Banks: 2–5%; Western Union: 3–6%; Wise: 0.4–0.7%; Remitly: 0.5–1.5%.
  • Hidden cost: Many "zero fee" promotions hide cost in the FX rate. Always check what the recipient actually receives.
  • For India: LRS limit is USD 250,000 per FY. TCS at 20% (above ₹7L) for non-education / non-medical remittance, claim back in ITR.
