How SSY works

  • Deposits allowed for the first 15 years from account opening.
  • From year 16 onwards, no fresh deposits — the balance keeps compounding at the prevailing rate.
  • Matures at the end of year 21 (or on marriage of the girl after age 18).
  • Annual deposit limit: ₹250 (minimum) to ₹1,50,000 (maximum).
  • Eligible for Section 80C deduction; interest and maturity are tax-free (EEE).

For Apr–Jun 2025 quarter, SSY pays 8.2% p.a. Rates are revised quarterly; check the latest from the India Post / CBDT notification.
