Conversion in two steps

Convert the mixed number to an improper fraction: a b/c = (a·c + b) / c.
Multiply by 100 (or move the decimal point two places to the right): (numerator / denominator) × 100 %.

Why is 1 1/2 equal to 150%?

1½ = 1.5 = 150 hundredths = 150%. Mixed numbers ≥ 1 always exceed 100%.
