How it works
- Drop or pick an image. The file stays on your device — nothing is uploaded.
- Drag the crop box, or pull its corner and edge handles. Pick an aspect preset if you need a fixed shape like 1:1 or 16:9 — resizing then keeps that ratio.
- Need exact numbers? Type X, Y, Width and Height in original-image pixels — the box follows.
- Click Crop. Your browser copies the selected pixels one-to-one onto a fresh canvas and hands back the file as a download.
Aspect ratios explained
| Ratio | Shape | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Any | Screenshots, trimming borders, cutting out one detail from a larger photo. |
| 1:1 | Square | Profile pictures — WhatsApp, Instagram, LinkedIn, Gmail avatars all display square. |
| 4:3 | Landscape | Classic photo shape; presentations, older cameras, iPad wallpaper. |
| 16:9 | Wide landscape | YouTube thumbnails, video covers, Twitter/X headers, TV and monitor wallpapers. |
| 3:4 | Portrait | Portrait prints and Instagram portrait posts. |
| 9:16 | Tall portrait | Instagram stories and reels, YouTube Shorts, phone wallpaper. |
| 35:45 | Passport | The standard 35×45 mm passport / visa photo proportion used in India, the EU, the UK and many other countries. |
Switching to a preset re-fits the crop box to the largest rectangle of that shape, centered on your image — then move and resize it from there.
Privacy & how your data is handled
- Nothing is uploaded. The tool runs 100% inside your browser tab using the built-in canvas API.
- Nothing is stored. When you close the tab or refresh, the image is gone from memory.
- Nothing is logged. No network calls during cropping — you can disconnect Wi-Fi after loading the page and the tool still works.
- No libraries, no trackers. Plain browser JavaScript — no third-party code touches your image.
FAQ
Is my image actually uploaded?
No. Everything runs inside your browser tab. The image is read from your device, cropped with the browser’s built-in canvas, and returned as a download — nothing is transmitted to any server. You can disconnect Wi-Fi after the page loads and it still works.
Does cropping reduce image quality?
The crop itself is a one-to-one pixel copy — no scaling, no resampling. Quality only changes at export: PNG output is lossless, while JPG and WebP re-encode at 92% quality, which is visually indistinguishable for photos. If you need every pixel untouched, save as PNG.
How do I crop to exact pixel values?
Type the numbers directly into the X, Y, Width and Height boxes under the editor — they work in original-image pixels, not screen pixels, so Width 800 really means 800 source pixels regardless of how the preview is scaled. Values are clamped so the box always stays inside the image.
Which aspect ratio should I pick for social media?
1:1 for profile pictures and square feed posts, 16:9 for YouTube thumbnails and link covers, 9:16 for stories, reels and Shorts, 3:4 for Instagram portrait posts. For passport or visa photos use 35:45 — the standard 35×45 mm proportion.
What image formats are supported?
Anything your browser can display: JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF (first frame), BMP and AVIF in modern browsers. You can export as JPG, PNG or WebP, or keep the input format. Cropping a transparent PNG to JPG fills the transparency with white, since JPG has no alpha channel.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. The handles use pointer events with generous touch targets, so you can drag, resize and move the crop box with a finger just like with a mouse. The editor scales to your screen and the output is always in full original-image resolution.
