Class rank percentile calculator

Percentile = (Class size − Rank) ÷ (Class size − 1) × 100. So if you’re 30th out of 200, you’re in the (200−30)÷199 × 100 = 85th percentile.

Why percentile matters

Universities and scholarship programs care less about absolute rank than your relative standing in your class. Being 30th of 200 (top 15%) is much more impressive than being 5th of 20 (top 25%). Percentile normalises this.

  • Top 1%: exceptional (Ivy League / IIT range).
  • Top 10%: very strong — competitive for most top schools.
  • Top 25%: above average — comfortable for most college applications.
